Florida Tech Adds Four Racing Shells to Crew Team’s Fleet

– Florida Institute of Technology christened four new racing shells during homecoming festivities at the Florida Tech marina. The new shells, made possible
by a donation from the Florida Institute of Technology Rowing Association, included a pair shell and three singles. The Rowing Association is a chapter of
the Florida Tech Alumni Association.

The pair shell was named Semper Fidelis. The three single shells were named for three alumni known for their rowing greatness. They are Jeanne Flanagan
’79, who rowed for the gold-medal-winning women’s eight in the 1984 Olympics; Fran Reininger ’81, who rowed for Oxford when the team won The Boat Race in
1985; and Tom Bohrer ’86, who earned silver medals in the men’s four in the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics.

The Florida Tech Athletics Department will use the boats for both the Men’s crew team and the Women’s rowing team, a nationally ranked program in NCAA
Division II rowing.
