Florida Tech Alumnus Creates $100,000 Military Science Endowment
– Francis O. Blume, a 1971 recipient of a Florida Tech bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, has donated $50,000 to the university to fund the first
endowment for U.S. Army cadets in the Military Science program. The donation, with a 100 percent match by the F.W. Olin Foundation, will create a $100,000
endowment for scholarships.
Blume, recently deceased, was a member of the first class of commissioned officers at Florida Tech. He served in the military and completed service to his
country working for National Security Agency in Maryland.
“The Blume endowment is a landmark for the Florida Tech Army ROTC program,” said Lt. Col. Thomas Tate, professor of military science. “The endowment will
provide several young men and women the unique opportunity to achieve a quality education while preparing themselves to assume the responsibilities as
junior leaders in the United States Army.
“We look forward to rewarding outstanding cadets for their achievements in academics, physical fitness and leadership potential with the fiscal resources
provided by the Blume endowment.”
