Florida Tech Among Nation’s Best for Summer Studies

CollegeChoice.net Looked at Academics, Amenities in Compiling List

MELBOURNE, FLA. — The strong academics of Florida Institute of Technology coupled with Brevard County’s outstanding array of water sports, cultural activities and outdoor opportunities landed the university on a list of the 50 most desirable U.S. colleges at which to attend summer school.

Florida Tech is one of just three Florida-based universities on the list compiled by CollegeChoice.net, which also features institutions such as Dartmouth College, Brown University and Stanford University.

The schools were chosen, according to CollegeChoice.net, “based on their proximity to hip summer festivals, surf-ready beaches, majestic mountain scenery, hiking and cycling hotspots, water sports-friendly lakes and rivers, and action-packed towns where there’s always something going on.”

“The idea behind this list is that if you’re planning to be in school during the summer, why not go to a place you’d want to be anyway?” said J. Alder, managing editor of CollegeChoice.net.

Here’s some of what CollegeChoice.net wrote about Florida Tech in selecting it for the list:

Florida Tech is “an ideal school for those who love the water. Besides being close to the beach, the Melbourne-based university comes with outdoor attractions aplenty – from parks, golf courses and a scenic inlet to botanic gardens and even a treetop trek. There are many eclectic restaurants and cafés, while a nearby region is known as the Space Coast, as tourist draws like Kennedy Space Center and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station are just up the Atlantic coastline.”

From immersive experiences across the sciences, such as a trip to the Galapagos Islands to study the unique animal and plant life there to Lifelong Scholar Society lectures, Florida Tech offers the variety and depth of opportunities that enliven learning.

And for the younger set, the school is home to dozens of enriching summer camps, from those focused on applied art and 3-D printing to camps centered on soccer, basketball or other athletic endeavors.
