Florida Tech Athletics Fundraiser Nets $150,000

– Sporting Affair, Florida Tech’s annual fundraising event for athletics scholarships, netted more than $150,000 this March, more than tripling the 2003
event’s total. Sporting Affair events included the Chopper Dropper, golf tournament as well as a tailgate party and auction at Florida Tech’s Clemente
Center.

Trustee Dale Dettmer won the Chopper Dropper event. He declined to accept the award, which left the Department of Athletics with the entire $50,000 raised.
The Chopper Dropper was a helicopter drop of 1,000 numbered golf balls onto the Suntree Country Club driving range. Participants sponsored balls for $50
apiece for a chance to win. Dettmer’s ball landed closest to the pin.

Dinner for six aboard a private yacht and tickets for four with limousine transportation to an elegant dinner and Orlando Magic game were two of several
big-ticket auction items that guests bid on at the tailgate party and auction.

Other auction items included packages for Boston Red Sox baseball and Tampa Bay Buccaneers football games, as well as a day at the Daytona International
Speedway.
