Florida Tech Awards Admiral O.D. Waters Fellowship

– Thomas L. Price Jr., a doctoral student in Florida Tech’s Environmental Science Program, has earned a $3,000 Admiral O.D. Waters Fellowship. Price, a
resident of Melbourne Beach, will apply the fellowship to expenses this spring semester. “Admiral Waters’ naval career has long been recognized, primarily
by the existence of the U.S.N.S. Waters,” said Dr. George Maul, head of the Department of Marine and Environmental Systems (DMES).

“Less known are his accomplishments as department head. He established the undergraduate program in ocean engineering and elevated our existing
oceanography program to doctoral level. ‘Muddy,’ as he was known, was a great oceanographer who reflected the finest traditions of the U.S. Navy. His
legacy lives on at Florida Tech.”

The Waters fellowships are offered to deserving DMES graduate students. The fund is supported by donations from the Waters family, DMES faculty, staff and
students, and by friends of the department.
DMES offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in oceanography, environmental science, ocean engineering and meteorology.
