Florida Tech Baseball Practice Under Way

Melbourne, Fla. (Baseball) – Florida Tech’s baseball team managed to dodge any rain and get its first
full day of fall practice in Saturday as the program began preparations for its fourth straight winning season. After three hours on the field, head coach
Greg Berkemeier was already encouraged by what he saw.   “As with any first practice, we’ve got a lot of things to work on,” said
Berkemeier, “but I’m encouraged by what I saw with some of the guys.   “Most of our experience is on the mound,” the coach continued. “I feel like
we’ve got some pretty good arms returning as well as some good new guys pitching for us that should help us compete. Position-wise, we’re pretty athletic.
We’ve got some key returners and some guys who’ve been biding their time behind the starters who are chomping at the bit to get some time in. So I’m
encouraged by the mix we’ve got.”   Berkemeier and the team look to carry the momentum that has been building over the past few years into the 2008
season, as the Panthers have steadily improved their standing in the Sunshine State Conference, finishing at 12-12 in 2007 after a 9-15 mark the previous
year.   “I’m happy to finally see everyone out there together and am pleased with what I saw in terms of the upperclassmen stepping up. We’ve got a
pretty good nucleus to work with,” Berkemeier commented.
