The Steve Thorpe Blues Orchestra Plays in Wickham Park

WFIT 89.5FM, a service of Florida Tech, and Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department, present The Steve Thorpe Blues Orchestra on Saturday, Aug. 5,
from 3 to 6 p.m., in the new amphitheatre at Wickham Park.

A monthly event, “Random Acts of Music,” will kick off with Blues music and Steve Thorpe, followed by jazz on Sept. 2. The first Saturday of every month
will be a different genre of music- from Blues to Jazz to Latin to World to holiday music and more.

The Steve Thorpe Orchestra is in great demand in Brevard County and all over the state. It’s a high-energy blues band with Thorpe on lead guitar and
vocals, his son Nathan Thorpe, on bass; Kenny Clarke on vocals and keyboards; and Dan Fournier on drums. The four make up the hard hitting, dynamic group.

Making the transition from the classic Mississippi Delta Blues to the more modern rock-edged blue, so popular today, was easy for Thorpe and his band. The
band’s two CDs, “Trouble” and “Live: Down and Dirty” are examples of the rock-edged blues. Thorpe says that he mainly plays blues with a rock delivery,
adding, “the thrust of what I do has a rock-funk delivery of the blues.”

The concert is free. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for three hours of rockin’-blues enjoyment.
