Florida Tech Coach and Student Honored by Sunshine State Conference

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Sunshine State Conference (SSC), a nine-member college and university consortium for Division II athletics, inducted Casey Baker into
the 2007 SSC Hall of Fame. A Florida Tech rowing coach, from 1988 to 2006, he was head women’s rowing coach his last seven years there.
Baker was just one of five administrators and coaches honored at the June ceremony. He led Florida Tech to five SSC Women’s Rowing championships. He also
guided the Panthers to four consecutive NCAA championship appearances, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006. Also, the Panthers women’s crew ranked in the top five
nationally, 2002-2006.
A resident of Palm Bay, Baker is now a consultant and sales representative for a manufacturer of racing shells.
A former Florida Tech student-athlete also was inducted at the SSC Hall of Fame honors banquet. She was Sonja Radenkovic, women’s basketball player, who
graduated in 1998. She is the SSC’s all-time leading basketball scorer, male or female, with career points of 2,136. She was also the SSC’s Player of the
Year 1996-1997. To be inducted, a student must have graduated from college at least five years previously.
Sunshine State Conference members also include Barry University, Eckerd College, Florida Southern College, Lynn University, Nova Southeastern University,
Rollins College, Saint Leo University and University of Tampa.
