Harris Corporation Provides Grant for Florida Tech Research in Service-oriented Architecture Security Testing
MELBOURNE, FLA.—Scott Tilley, Florida Institute of Technology professor and researcher in the university’s Harris Institute for Assured Information in the Department of Computer Sciences, has received a grant from Harris Corporation for a project on assured information research.
Tilley will conduct a gap analysis of the current approaches to security testing in a service-oriented architecture (SOA). In such a architecture, the design, development, deployment and management of enterprise systems is merged with closely aligned business needs and technical solutions. A SOA environment offers cost-efficiency and agility, but presents several information assurance challenges.
Tilley’s research will identify the shortcomings of current approaches to security testing in a SOA environment. It will explore the risks to enterprise systems exposed by these shortcomings and recommend ways to mitigate the risks with new and innovative approaches to security testing.
This work is part of a broader research effort to create a body of knowledge surrounding SOA testing.
Harris has been an industry partner of Florida Tech for the past 50 years and has provided funding for the university’s new Harris Institute for Assured Information, which will focus on developing advanced solutions to help solve global information security problems. The new center will be dedicated Oct. 23, 2009.
