Marco Carvalho Named to Florida Inventors Hall of Fame Advisory Board
University Provost Joins Distinguished Leaders from Public, Private Sectors
MELBOURNE, FLA. — Marco Carvalho, Ph.D., executive vice president, provost and COO at Florida Tech, has been named to the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame Advisory Board.
Carvalho, who is also a professor of computer sciences, joins a board featuring distinguished leaders and inventors with diverse backgrounds from both the public and private sectors.
The Tampa-based Florida Inventors Hall of Fame (FIHF) honors and recognizes inventors whose achievements have advanced the quality of life for Floridians, the state and the nation, and seeks to encourage individuals of all ages and backgrounds to strive toward the betterment of Florida and society through continuous, groundbreaking innovation.
That spirit of innovation was one reason why the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame sought Carvalho for its board, noted Paul R. Sanberg, Ph.D., D.Sc., the organization’s founder and chair of the Advisory Board, and president of the National Academy of Inventors.
“We are also excited about the opportunity to grow and strengthen our partnership with Florida Institute of Technology,” Sanberg said in a letter to Carvalho announcing his appointment. “Under your leadership, Florida Tech has made incredible advances especially as you work to establish interdisciplinary colleges where innovation is unencumbered by convention. This speaks to the heart of innovation in Florida, and what we celebrate at the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame.”
“I’m honored to join this outstanding and dedicated team of advisors,” Carvalho said. “Florida Tech has innovation and excellence in its DNA, and we look forward to bringing that heritage to the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame.”
Jamie Spurrier, FIHF program manager, added that FIHF officials are excited about strengthening the partnership with Florida Tech and becoming more involved with the university’s “innovation ecosystem” and its STEM education and community outreach.
“We believe Dr. Carvalho’s board appointment will create an impactful synergy for both institutions,” she said.
