Florida Tech Engineering Student Chapter to Host Regional Conference

– The Florida Tech student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) was selected to sponsor the 2003 AIChE Southern Regional
Conference, March 6 – 8, 2003. It will be held in Melbourne.

The largest chemical engineering student conference of its kind, it will draw students from 31 Southeast colleges and universities as well as faculty,
company representatives and professionals. Between 350 and 500 people are expected. The main events will be held Friday, March 7 on campus. Events include
the Paper Competition, Poster Competition, Chem-E-Car Competition, a career fair, workshops, plant tours, and a sponsored breakfast, lunch and dinner
banquet. Other conference events include a volleyball tournament on Thursday, March 6 and a joint professional and student golf tournament Saturday, March
8.

Teams in the Chem-E-Car Competition construct cars that must be powered by a chemical reaction, which the students choose. The vehicle must bring a
specified payload a pre-determined distance and then stop. Conference faculty advisor is Dr. Maria Pozo deFernandez, Florida Tech

AIChE student chapter advisor and president of the local professional chapter; Frank Trevino, graduate student and past president of the local AIChE
student chapter; Joseph Baan, junior and current president of the AIChE student chapter.
