Florida Tech Extends Invitation for 11-day World War II Site Tour

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Lifelong Scholar Society is hosting an 11-day tour of historical World War II sites throughout Europe. The trip will include tours of Paris, Normandy, Bastogne, Luxembourg, Munich and Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest in Germany. Not just an academic trip, there will be plenty of opportunity to explore, shop and take in the sights.

This tour was organized by two Florida Tech history professors: Matthew Ruane and Robert A. Taylor. With the university since 1999, Ruane has co-directed two previous trips to Europe. Taylor’s historical publications have appeared in both Army History and Naval History. He is a graduate of the Army’s Military History Instructor course taught for the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

The cost of $2,999 includes excursions, meals, hotels, tour guides and tour buses. The trip does not include air fare, beverages, or travel insurance. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due by March 7; the remaining balance is due March 12.

The Florida Institute of Technology Lifelong Scholar Society will host periodic lectures on World War II leading up to the day the tour departs for Europe. In two lectures, Taylor will discuss the perspectives on World War II in Western Europe and the large role Florida played in the allied victory. In a third lecture, Chris Frongillo will discuss the impact of the Second World War on poetic form and theme.
