Florida Tech Faculty Member Reappointed to County Environmental Committee
MELBOURNE, FLA. — Lee Harris, Florida Tech associate professor of ocean engineering, has been reappointed to the Brevard County Tourist Development Council’s
(TDC) Beach Committee. As a committee member, he can advise the TDC on issues related to the health of the county’s beaches.
Harris is a noted expert in the areas of beach erosion control, coastal structures and artificial reefs. He earned a doctoral degree in ocean engineering
from Florida Atlantic University, a master’s in coastal and oceanographic engineering from the University of Florida and is a registered professional
engineer in the states of Florida, New York and South Carolina.
Harris was a coastal engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the mid-70s and, since becoming a Florida Tech faculty member in 1980, he has
performed research and studies on beaches throughout the coastal U.S. and internationally. This includes the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand and
Thailand.
