Florida Tech Falls to Tampa 2-1

MELBOURNE, Fla.-The #9 Florida Tech Panthers (29-16, 13-9) have been unable to overcome the hitting slump they have been in for the last two weeks
succumbing to the University of Tampa Spartans (18-7, 6-13) 2-1 in their final Friday home-stand at the Varsity Field in Sunshine State Conference softball
action.

Only four Panthers managed to hit on the day including senior Kelly Darden (Orlando, Fla.) who launched a single to left field to bring home teammate
sophomore Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.). Fettes lead all players tallying the lone triple for the day.

Senior Megan Hube (Bel Air, Md.) and junior Katie Naumoff (Poland, Ohio) were the only other Panthers to hit in game one for the three game series.

Sophomore, Apopka native, Amber West (18-11) suffered the loss. She tossed a complete game allowing eight hits, walking one and fanning nine Spartans.

Junior Tampa pitcher Devlin Dougherty (Hayden, Idaho) was the winning pitcher now garnering a 14-14 record. Dougherty tossed a complete seven innings
allowing four hits on one earned run while striking out four for the contest.

Dougherty led her team at the plate as well going 2-for-3 along with senior Nicole Fenno (Tampa, Fla.). Fellow junior and Tampa native, Kelly Glover scored
the winning run along with being awarded the RBI for the first run.

Both teams will face each other for Tech’s final double-header of the season. First pitch will be at 1:00 p.m. in between the two games the five Panther
seniors and two Spartan seniors will be honored during the senior day festivities. Florida Tech seniors’ include Hube and Darden along with Courtney
Harless (St. Cloud, Fla.), Jen Salls (Madison, Fla.) and Karen D’Alberto (Cape Coral, Fla.). Tampa’s two seniors are Fenno and Jen Luis (Kendall Park,
N.J.)
