Florida Tech Names Marsha Bewersdorf Senior VP of Finance, CFO
MELBOURNE, FLA. — Marsha Bewersdorf, with more than 25 years of financial leadership experience in the public sector and the non-profit and higher education fields, has been named Florida Tech’s new senior vice president of business and finance and chief financial officer.
Bewersdorf, who grew up in Emporia, Kansas, and now lives in Indian Harbour Beach, started at Florida Tech on Dec. 10.
“We have some amazing faculty and staff at Florida Tech and I will be looking to empower those people with more efficient processes and transparency,” she said. “I believe that this and a lot of communication and hard work will help to build cohesion across colleges and with our local community.”
Bewersdorf attended Wichita State University, located about 90 miles southwest of Emporia, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA.
She went on to obtain her certified public accountant (CPA) designation before beginning a decade-long tenure in public accounting, helping small businesses with accounting systems and general consulting and then later at a Fortune 500 global management consulting and professional services firm.
Having served several local non-profits as a board member or treasurer over the years, in 2008 Bewersdorf brought that experience into her career as chief financial officer for the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation in Wichita. She was there for almost 7 years before entering higher education as the vice president of finance and chief financial officer at Friends University in Wichita.
In early 2018, when Bewersdorf and her family moved to the Space Coast, she finished the school year at Friends University and then served as interim chief financial officer at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, until the opportunity at Florida Tech became available.
For her work at Friends University, Bewersdorf was the recipient of the 2017 CFO Award from the Wichita Business Journal. The business publication also named her a member of its 4 Under 40 Class of 2009 as one of the area’s prominent young leaders.
