Astronomy Professor to Discuss Major Astronomical Happenings, 2010-2020

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Daniel Batcheldor, Florida Institute of Technology assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Space Sciences, will present “Astronomy: 2010-2020″ on Jan. 28. Part of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Public Lecture Series, the free presentation will be held on campus from 8 to 9 p.m. in the F.W. Olin Engineering Complex, Room EC118. Weather permitting, rooftop public star viewing will follow.

In his presentation, Batcheldor will discuss major astronomical results from 2010 and scientific directions for the next decade. He will talk about astronomers’ financial priorities and reveal major questions for current undergraduates in their future research endeavors.

Batcheldor is also the director of the Olin Observatory on campus, which houses the Ortega 0.8-meter (32-inch) telescope, the largest research-quality telescope in Florida.
