Florida Tech Harriers Open 2006 Campaign
SUNRISE, Fla. (cross country)– The Florida Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2006 season earlier today at the NSU Sharks Invitational
hosted by Nova Southeastern University at Markham Park. Tech posted a fifth-place finish in the men’s division, while claiming seventh place in the women’s
competition.
Florida Tech earned 117 team points in the men’s competition, which was won by Division I University of Miami with 26 points. The Panthers recorded 140
team points in the women’s division, which was won by Division I Florida Atlantic University with 35 points.
Senior Jared Doescher (Hillsboro, Ore.) led the Panther men, turning in a 22nd-place performance, as he covered the 5,000-meter course in 18:05.40. Junior
Joe Peterson (Litchfield, N.H.) placed 29th with a time of 18:23.21, followed closely by junior Dave Stephens (North Royalton, Ohio) who placed 32nd with a
time of 18:45.15. Other Panther runners earning team points included junior Ryan Gauthier (Mystic, Conn., 40th, 19:21.66) and sophomore Max Goldfarb
(Baltimore, Md., 41st, 19:28.90). Also completing the course were junior Sam Golden (Fort Myers, Fla., 46th, 20:06.81), junior Shane Ferguson (Buena Vista,
Va., 49th, 20:26.90), freshman Kyle Kirk (Warrenton, Va., 51st, 20:36.31), senior Andy Herron (Jacobs, Pa.) 54th, 21:19.62) and freshman Calvin Emery
(York, Pa., 56th, 21:38.13).
Junior Carolyn Salois (Palm Bay, Fla.) was the top Panther woman, placing 19th with a 5,000-meter time of 22:07.00. Team points were also earned by
freshman Nicole Aia (Stormville, N.Y., 25th, 22:27.00), senior Amy Bennett (Austin, Tex., 30th, 23:04.00), Jennifer Lindsey (Sugar Grove, Ill., 32nd,
23:38.00) and junior Trevi Jenkins (Towson, Md., 39th, 24:19.00). Freshman Megan Pierce (Seely,Wisc.) also completed the course, placing 41st with a time
of 24:43.00.
Among Division II runners in the respective fields, Doescher placed sixth, while Salois came in seventh.
Top individual runners were Florida International’s D.J. Keller (16:31.34) in the men’s race and Florida Atlantic’s Friederike Feil (19:09.00) on the
women’s side.
The Panthers will regroup for the 2006 Florida Tech Invitational which will be held Saturday, September 9 at Wickham Park.
