Softball Splits in Regular Season Finale

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (softball) Four year seniors members Laura Chisena (Ocoee, Fla.), Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) and Katie Naumoff (Poland, Ohio) go
out with a bang being the only three Panthers to hit safely in both games tonight at the Howard Field taking the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic (22-32)
3-0 in game one and falling 3-2 in the night cap. Florida Tech finishes their regular season play with the school’s record for wins in a single season at
42-25.

Kristen Fettes finished her regular season play topping Tech with a career best .367 batting average. Tonight she went 2-for-6 with two runs and 2 RBI’s.
She leads the team in hits at 79; RBI’s at 49, doubles at 14 and triples at six for the season. Fellow senior member Katie Naumoff went 3-for-6 with one
run and one RBI for the evening. Naumoff currently stands third on the team hitting .344 for the season. She leads all crimson and gray sluggers runs
scored at 47, and is second in RBI’s at 41 with 12 doubles and 66 hits. Finally senior short stop Laura Chisena went 2-for-6 with one runs scored for the
day. Chisena finished the year with 54 hits and 32 runs.

In game one, the three senior amigos along with junior Danielle Stanley (Grayson, Fla.) and freshman Sarah Oram (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) each produced a
hit with Naumoff notching two in the 3-0 win. Junior hurler Amber West (Apopka) notched her ninth shut-out on the season. West (19-10) threw 7.0 innings
allowing only two hits while fanning six for the victory.

The Panthers scored in the first and fourth innings taking the game early. Stanley started the ball rolling as the first batter of the day with a shot to
left field. Chisena proceeded to lay down a sacrifice bun to move Stanley to scoring position. After two outs, Naumoff plated Stanley after a single shot
deep into left field with the eventual game winner.

In the fourth, Fettes reached on an error by the Sailfish’s second baseman. Naumoff smacked one right back at the pitcher for her second hit of the game.
Junior Ali Wiegand (Tallahassee, Fla.) effectively laid down a sac bunt to move the seniors around. Junior Ashley Lugo sent Fettes home after another
sacrifice smack to left field. Naumoff would take advantage of another error by the Sailfish to finish Tech’s rally.

In game two, despite a shellacking by Fettes over the left field wall for a two run homer bringing Chisena long for the ride, Tech was unable to maintain
the one run lead. With the 2-to-1 advantage the Sailfish scored two more runs after an error by Tech.

Senior Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.) suffered the loss allowing two earned runs on five hits going 5.1 innings of work. Husband struck out one.

The next 24 to 48 hours will be a waiting game for the Panthers as they anticipate the new rankings. The Panthers who are currently ranked #8th in the
NCAA II South Regional Poll are awaiting tomorrow’s new ranking to hopefully move a little
further in the order to try and secure a spot in their first ever appearance in regional play. If they stay at the #8 position for the next two polls they
will most likely not see post-season due to an automatic qualification bid for three conferences in the region, one of which will come from the Southern
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Currently, there are no SIAC teams ranked in the top ten and that AQ will take the eighth position at the DII south
regional event.
