Florida Tech Lecture Explores Human Cost of African Precious Metals July 23

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Did you know that a precious mineral in your iPhone is causing turmoil in the Congo? The mineral cobalt is in high demand for the production of our favorite tech gadgets. Similar issues exist over the Congo’s diamonds and gold.

On Tuesday, July 23 at 10 a.m., the public is invited to hear Florida Tech staff member John Almasi discuss his experiences in Tunduru, Tanzania, involving the conflict minerals in Africa and his experiences seeking a fair share of the profits for the miners. The lecture will be in the F.W. Olin Engineering Building, Room 118, on campus.

The cost of $20 includes lunch with the speaker in the Panther Dining Hall. For information or to register, call (321) 674-8382 or email pdpregistration@fit.edu.
