Florida Tech Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams Place 15th at NCAA South Regional Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Florida Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams both placed 15th in their respective races earlier today at the 2006 NCAA Division
II South Region Cross Country Championships.

The Panther women tallied 338 team points and were led by junior Carolyn Salois (Palm Bay, Fla.), who finished 29th, covering the 6,000-meter course in
24:13. Other Panther finishers included senior Jamie Wagner (Arlington Heights, Ill., 65th, 25:22), freshman Megan Pierce (Seely, Wisc.,71st, 25:29),
senior Amy Bennett (Austin, Texas, 83rd, 25:51) and freshman Nicole Aia (Stormville, N.Y., 118th, 27:13).

The Tech men’s squad recorded 400 team points, and was led by senior Jared Doescher (Hillsboro, Ore.), who placed 40th, covering the 10,000-meter course in
34:24. Other Panther finishers included junior Joseph Patterson (Litchfield, N.H., 81st, 36:02), junior Shane Ferguson (Buena Vista, Va., 91st, 36:32),
junior Sam Golden (Fort Myers, Fla., 108th, 38:21) and junior David Stephens (North Royalton, Ohio, 122nd, 43:49).

Harding (Ark.) University captured first place in both the men’s and women’s divisions and will advance to the 2006 NCAA Division II National
Championships, scheduled for November 18 in Pensacola, Fla. Florida Southern College also earned team spots in the nationals, as their men’s team finished
second and the women’s team came in third. The University of Tampa women rounded out the qualifying teams from the south region, placing second.

North Alabama senior Emry McKay won the women’s race, posting a 21:38. Harding junior Julius Kosgei led all male runners, covering the course in 31:07.
