Florida Tech Men’s Soccer Team Has Valiant Effort Against Second-Ranked Lynn

MELBOURNE, Fla. (men’s soccer) — Entering play with a three-match winning streak, the Florida Tech men’s soccer team was faced with a tall order, as
second-ranked Lynn University (9-0, 4-0 SSC) paid a visit to Rick Stottler Field in Sunshine State Conference action earlier today. The Panthers came up a
bit short, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Fighting Knights, but the performance clearly demonstrated that Florida Tech (4-5-1, 1-2 SSC) is heading in the
right direction.

Lynn, an NCAA semifinalist last year and just two years removed from an NCAA championship, was tested more by this Florida Tech team than any Panther team
in recent memory. The visitors from Boca Raton last lost to Florida Tech in 1994, but have especially dominated the series over the past five years, having
outscored the Panthers 33-3 during that span.

The Panthers held Lynn scoreless for the first 34 minutes of the match, before sophomore Nano Short (London, England) pushed a corner kick by senior
Kenneth Viquez (Kenner, Louisiana) into the goal to open the scoring. Viquez would set up another goal just four minutes later, as he fed senior Carl
Wallace (Stafford, England)with a cross from the corner. Sophomore Jean Alexandre (Delray Beach, Fla.) closed out the scoring with an unassisted insurance
goal in the 68th minute.

Despite the 3-0 final score, the match was significantly closer, as the teams managed an identical 17 shots apiece. Lynn claimed a minute 6-5 edge in
corner kicks, while fouls are nearly even, with Lynn being whistled 12 times to the Panthers’ 11.

Florida Tech sophomore goalkeeper Cory Collins (Melbourne, Fla.) recorded a match-high seven saves, while his counterpart, junior Tim Melia (Great River,
N.Y.), grabbed five.

Freshman Ross Allen (Guernsey, U.K.) led the Panthers with five shots, tying Short for the match high.

Florida Tech will enjoy several days off, returning to action on Wednesday, October 4 against non-conference opponent Northwood University. Kick-off in
West Palm Beach is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
