Florida Tech Appeals to Surfers–Officially

It’s official. Florida Tech is “great for the studious surfer,” says the Surf Channel, which has named it one of the Top 10 Universities for Surfers. Florida Tech was ranked #6 as one of the “schools in prime locations for daily surf sessions to break up all that studying.” Visit: http://www.thesurfchannel.com/slide/top-10-universities-to-attend-as-a-surfer/

Evidence abounds for this new accolade. For example, the Florida Tech Surf Team is #1 among Florida collegiate teams. The university remained ahead of the three other Florida collegiate teams competing in the 2012 National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) National Interscholastic Championships last June in Dana Point, Calif. The team finished sixth overall in the competition. It was only the third year of competition for the team.

The Surf Channel’s story pointed out that prime waves may be found at Sebastian Inlet, “a consistent break that enjoys the convenience of both a left and a right.” Also, Florida Tech is just a few miles away from choice Spanish House and Bonsteel Park surfing sites. Additionally, the Space Coast surf trained 11-time world champion Kelly Slater.
