Men’s Crew Looking for Repeat Performance at 2006 Fall FIRA Classic

MELBOURNE, Fla.(men’s and women’s rowing) — The Panthers once again are host to the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association’s (FIRA) Fall Classic. Over
the years, it has been commonly known as the freshman regatta, but the FIRA Fall Classic features varsity races as well. The 2006 Classic will take place
on Veterans Day and is free to all patrons, fans and spectators.

The Saturday, November 11th two-mile race will be held on Canal 54 in Fellesmere, Fla. The site is located about 20 minutes south of the Florida Tech
campus on Babcock Street.

Last year’s classic featured 10 teams from the state of Florida including; Florida Tech, Barry University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Nova
Southeastern University, Stetson University, Rollins College, the University of Central Florida, the University of Florida, the University of Miami and the
University of Tampa. This year, Miami and Tampa are not participating.

Florida Tech won the Men’s Varsity Eight (11:16) event and Barry (12:46) won the Women’s Varsity Eight event. Barry (15:13) also took the Women’s Varsity
Four, while Rollins (13:16) won the Men’s Varsity Four race.

In the 2005 novice events, UCF won both Women’s Novice Eight (14:59 A, 16:47 B) events while Barry (16:04) took the Women’s Novice Four “A” race and
Florida Tech (18:19) won the Women’s Novice Four “B” race.

On the men’s side, Embry Riddle (14:52) won the Men’s Novice Eight ‘A’ race and Florida Tech (14:15) won the Eight ‘B’ race. Tampa (14:41-15:48) took both
Men’s Novice Four races, including a tie with Miami in the ‘A’ race to finish off the 12 events for the day.

This year’s Classic features eight different institutions competing in six men’s races and five women’s races. The Classic will go off at 10:00 a.m.,
opening up with the women’s varsity eight event.
