The Surf Team remained ahead of four other Florida collegiate teams competing in the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) National Interscholastic Championships June 16-18 in Dana Point, Calif. The team finished seventh overall in the competition and team member Sebastian Moreno ranked fifth in the College Mens category.
Other team members were Billy Scott, Aaron Privett, Ashley Privett, Alex Ferencz, Pat Brennan, Frankie Brown and Will Cole (longboard).
Florida Tech qualified for the national contest after doing well in the NSSA East Coast Championships in April. This is just the second year of competition for the team.
The national competition fielded 17 teams. The four other Florida teams participating represented Flagler College, University of North Florida, University of Central Florida and Daytona State College. Mira Costa College in Oceanside, Calif., won the first place crown.
