Florida Tech Sustainability Forum Attracts Renowned Keynote Speakers

– Dr. William F. Carroll, president of the American Chemical Society; Dr. William F. Koch, a deputy director of the National Institutes of Standards and
Technology (NIST); and Dr. Duane DeFreese, vice president for research, Hubbs-Seaworld Research Institute, will offer keynote presentations at Florida
Tech’s “Sustainability’s New Age: Preservation and Planning (SNAP),” an international sustainability forum. They will join scientists from around the world
Feb. 21-23, exploring Florida growth management issues and international sustainability issues.

Carroll, vice president of Occidental Chemical Corporation, focuses on public policy issues and communications related to chlorine and PVC. He is also on
the Department of Chemistry faculty at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., where he teaches polymer chemistry.

Koch, deputy director of the NIST’s Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory, is also chairman of the NIST Safety Council. He was awarded a Silver Medal
by the Department of Commerce in 2002 and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry.

DeFreese, a senior research biologist, is responsible for all aspects of the Hubbs-Seaworld Research Institute in Florida. He is chairman of the Florida
Advisory Council on Environmental Education and active in numerous scientific and community initiatives.

Members of the general public may attend this forum, which is coordinated by Dr. Gordon L. Nelson, dean of the Florida Tech College of Science. There is no
