Florida Tech to Award First B.S. Degree in Accounting

– Florida Tech’s first accounting graduate will be a mong the university’s approximately 260 degree recipients honored at the Fall Commencement on December
13. The School of Management ‘s undergraduate accounting program is just two years old.

Lucas Rosu, a resident of Queens , New York , will receive the degree as he graduates magna cum laude, with a 3.5 grade point average. Rosu plans to take
some specialized accounting courses over the next semester, enroll in a master’s program in accounting or finance and, ultimately, take the certified
public accountant (CPA) examination.

“It was a great program,” said Rosu. The faculty were excellent and the assignments were interesting.”

Dr. Barbara Pierce, CPA, director of the program and associate dean of the School of Management , said that there are almost 20 students — freshmen to
seniors — currently enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting program. She is one of three full-time accounting faculty who teach program courses.

The Florida Tech School of Management also offers bachelor’s degrees in business administration, business and environmental studies, information systems
and management information systems, as well as the master’s degree in business administration.
