MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Florida Institute of Technology College of Business will welcome Debbie Harvey, Ron Jon Surf Shop president and chief operating officer
(COO) as the spring lecturer for the Alan Smith Visiting Executives Program. She will make a presentation on April 2, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Denius
Student Center’s second-floor Hartley Room. It is free and open to the public.
Harvey became president and COO in March 2008. She began her work with the company as director of merchandise buying before her promotion to vice president
in June 2007 and later appointment to the Ron Jon Surf Shop Board of Directors. Among many previous retail positions, she was vice president of sportswear
and dresses at Beall’s Department Stores for seven years and was vice president of Apparel and footwear for the Home Shopping Network.
In addition, Harvey is a member of Leadership Florida and serves as chairman of the Florida Retail Federation, which represents the interests of Florida
retailers. She is also a member of National Retail Federation, which provides the same type of leadership on a national level. She earned a bachelor’s
degree in business administration with a major in marketing from the University of Florida.
The original Ron Jon Surf shop still stands in Shipbottom N.J. The Cocoa Beach store, at 51,000 square feet, is widely known as the world’s largest surf
shop. Ron Jon’s has five other stores in Florida, one in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and is preparing to open another location in Destin, Fla. this May.
