Florida Tech Water Polo Club Joins in Association Play

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Water Polo Club at Florida Institute of Technology, a member of the College Water Polo Association, will host a club from Daytona Beach at Florida Tech Sunday, Sept. 16 for a “friendly scrimmage.”The team’s first tournament of the academic year will take place on Sept. 22 at the University of Central Florida. The team was founded in summer 2011.

“We are an eclectic team comprised of former international team members from Jamaica, Qatar, Venezuela, Russia, France, Turkey and the United States,” said member Travis Hunsucker. He is a doctoral student in ocean engineering in the Department of Marine and Environmental Systems.

This is the first season the team will play in the College Water Polo Association, the sanctioning body for non-varsity collegiate water polo.The team practices Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Panther Aquatic Center

The club is open to male and female Florida Tech students. It plays in the Florida division against Florida State University, University of Florida, Florida Gulf Coast University, University of Miami and UCF.For more information, contact Hunsucker at jhunsucker2008@my.fit.edu.
