Florida Tech Women Win 61-52 at Saint Leo

Danielle Vaughn’s 19 Points Helps Panthers Win Fourth Straight Game

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Danielle Vaughn scored a game-high 19 points to lift the Florida Tech women’s basketball team to a 61-52 victory over Saint Leo
University Saturday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference action.

Florida Tech (15-9, 9-4 SSC) jumped out an early 10-point lead, sprinting to an 18-8 led just over nine minutes into the game. The gritty Lions would
battle back to tie the score at 25-25 with just 1:40 to play in the first half, but a Shante Johnson layup with 21 seconds to play gave the Panthers a
31-30 halftime lead.

The early stages of the second half belonged to Florida Tech, as the Panthers used a 20-2 run over the first 10 minutes to run up a 51-32 advantage at the
9:49 mark.

Pesky Saint Leo would not go away, as the Lions climbed within six points on three separate occasions in the final five minutes of the contest.

Florida Tech shot 45% from the field in the second half, compared to just 23% for Saint Leo. The Panthers also held a 45-31 edge in rebounding.

Johnson scored seven points and led all players with 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Kristi Harrell and Sabrina Jones also added seven points apiece
for the Panthers.

Marquita Fenn paced Saint Leo (7-16, 4-9 SSC) with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday when they travel to St. Petersburg to face Eckerd College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
