Florida Tech’s Alumni Association Homecoming 5K Run/Walk: November 2, 2017

Are you ready to party? Well, get in a good workout first!

This year’s Homecoming season kicks off with Florida Institute of Technology Alumni Association’s Homecoming 5K Run/Walk on Thursday, November 2. The race starts at 6 p.m. in downtown Melbourne and closes with a party at Meg O’Malley’s.

Stephanie Bacon, Florida Tech’s Associate Director of Alumni Programs and Giving says the public is welcome to join in the fun, along with Florida Tech faculty, staff and students.

“This is a great race and a great community event,” Bacon said. “The race has been growing over the past several years and this year we anticipate over 550 runners.”

Can’t make it on race day? Not a problem.

“As a university we are more than the traditional brick and mortar, we are virtual too,” Bacon said. “Last year, we initiated a virtual race component. This has been a great addition for both our online students as well as our extended studies sites.”

The virtual runners may run any time after registration and receive the official race shirt and race number.

“Our online department does a great job in engaging the online student runners and asks them to post on social media,” Bacon said.

The race raises money for the Florida Tech Cross Country team.

Members of that team, along with the track team and the alumni board serve as volunteers during the 5K run.

Groups can race as a team and join other teams including; the College of Engineering, Catholic Campus Ministry, the Evans Library team, ROTC and community partners like Harris and Northrop Grumman.
