WFIT 89.5 FM Receives Grant to Expand Concert Series

MELBOURNE, FLA.—WFIT 89.5 FM, a service of Florida Institute of Technology, was recently awarded a $6,407 grant from the Brevard County Community Cultural Grants Program. The program is funded by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners and managed by the Brevard Cultural Alliance. Its objective is to support arts and culture in Brevard County by funding private nonprofit arts and cultural organizations such as WFIT. This year, a total of $100,000 was awarded to 25 cultural organizations in Brevard County.

Due to budget cuts, concert sponsorship from the local municipalities has not been available for several years. The award to WFIT will contribute to the expansion of its concert series. Currently, WFIT hosts the free Jazz at the Panthereum four times per year on campus and two jazz cruises each year. The funding will support technical and production personnel, marketing and artists’ concert fees.

WFIT’s mission is to serve the local community. “As electronic and print media continue to consolidate and become more commercial, WFIT’s service as an independent voice and local resource is increasingly valuable to the people and organizations it serves,” said Terri Wright, WFIT general manager.
