Free Community Event from 2-6 p.m.
on Melbourne Campus
MELBOURNE, FLA. — A free community Halloween event featuring haunted houses, live performances, a costume contest and, of course, candy will be held from 2-6 p.m. Oct. 27 on the Florida Tech campus.
Treat or Treat is the annual Halloween program hosted by Florida Tech’s Department of Residence Life and its nearly 60 undergraduate resident assistants. This year, Greek Life is lending a hand with about 100 volunteers.
Treat or Treat provides Brevard County families with the opportunity for a safe, fun and free Halloween experience. The marquee attraction is five theatrical haunted houses built within residence halls on the Residence Quad along Country Club Road. Four of the houses have different “scare levels” and suggested age ranges, though all ages are welcome in all houses. One is solely for trick or treating:
- “Under the Sea” in Shaw Hall: age range 5 and under
- “Coco” in Woods Hall: scare level 1, age range 5-8
- “Black Panther” in Campbell Hall: scare level 2, age range 8-12
- “Stranger Things” in Grissom Hall: scare level 2.5, age range 10-13
- “Slender Man” in Evans Hall: scare level 3, age range 13 and older
Resident Assistants will serve as actors and tour guides throughout each house.
In addition to the haunted houses, the event will include games, food, a costume contest, music, candy, inflatables, booths hosted by both on- and off-campus clubs and organizations, and arts and crafts.
Treat or Treat will be held in the Residence Quad and the nearby Pantherium outdoor plaza.
“Each year is more special than the last, seeing everyone’s faces when they arrive and get to experience all the new things we have built in our haunted houses,” said Resident Director Zachary Eicholz, lead program coordinator for Treat or Treat. “This is a unique Residential Life event that allows us as a university to give back to the community and build a stronger relationship with the general public.”
Last year’s Treat or Treat drew more than 2,600 people, the highest attendance of any Residence Life program ever.
