Florida Tech’s TWITCHY Releases CD, “Music Makes You Smarter”
MELBOURNE, FLA.—Does music affect how people learn? According to the members of Florida Institute of Technology’s faculty band, TWITCHY, music not only moves the soul, but it also affects the brain. All of the band members believe that music enhances mathematical and technical learning, which is the reason behind their new CD’s title, “Music Makes You Smarter.”
The name of the rock ‘n roll band, TWITCHY, is an acronym for the names of the original faculty players who compose it. These professors-turned-performers donate their time and talent for charity fundraisers and benefits at Florida Tech and in the community. Musicians include President Anthony J. Catanese, Alan Rosiene, Ivica Kostanic, Fred Ham, Cliff Bragdon, Jamie Younkin, Winston Scott, Tom Waite, Susan Earles and Kevin Johnson.
The band was formed in 2008 in recognition of Florida Tech’s 50th anniversary. “I wanted to find a band that knew songs from 1958, but I was unable to come up with one, so I started my own,” said President Catanese, the band’s founder. “Most of the members played in rock bands in their youth, so this is a return to many happy days,” he added.
The CD features the TWITCHY original, “Time Traveler,” and classics in a variety of styles that include “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Paint It Black,” and “Margaritaville.”
The CD is available for purchase at the campus bookstore for $10 each. All proceeds will benefit Florida Tech’s music department.
