Final Day at Azalea Volleyball Classic Proves Too Much for Tech’s Spikers

VALDOSTA, Ga. (volleyball) — Florida Tech finished up day two of the Azalea Volleyball Classic hosted by Valdosta State University. Despite a tough fought
second match the Panthers fall 3-0 against Augusta State, while grabbing a game 3-1 in the Presbyterian College bout.

In the early morning match-up to start the day, Florida Tech fell in three games to Augusta State University 30-23, 30-25, 30-25.

Again, freshman Frankie Brown (Panama City, Fla.) led Tech with nine kills. Junior setter Amanda Boyce (Madison, Wis.) tallied a .286 attack percentage
with 33 assists and ten digs. Coming off the bench, junior outside hitter Lisa Cole (Liverpool, N.Y.) and freshman middle hitter Jess Davies
(Lawrenceville, Ga.) each hit .500 for the day. Freshman libero Melissa Reinders (Orlando, Fla.) led all players defensively with 19 digs. For the season
she is averaging 4.76 digs per game.

In Tech’s fourth and final match of the Classic, the Panthers see-sawed with the Blue Hose losing 30-23, 27-30, 30-15, 30-25.

Senior middle hitter Jenny McCoy (Titusville, Fla.) and Boyce combined for 14 kills on an errorless hitting game. McCoy tallied a .533 while Boyce topped
her at .750 for the contest. Tech’s setter also added 39 assists and 16 digs. Junior middle hitter Lindsay Foster (Titusville, Fla.) had eight kills and
five blocks including the lone block solo for Tech. Frankie Brown added 10 kills and three blocks.

Defensively three other Panthers notched double figures in digs including senior outside hitter Megan Konopnicki (Plano, Tex.) with 14, junior defensive
specialist Katie Dobek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) with 13 and Reinders with 13 for the match.

The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday, September 5th hosting Flagler College at 7:00 p.m.
