Former Florida Tech Tennis Standout Continues Success after College
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Former Florida Tech Tennis standout, Clifford Giel (Savaneta, Aruba), led Aruba to a first place Davis Cup finish in the Americas Zone
Group 4. Aruba defeated Trinidad and Tobago, Honduras, and the US Virgin Islands all by a 2-1 margin in a round robin format.
Clifford Giel was involved in the deciding match against each country. On day one, Clifford defeated Trinidad’s Richard Brown 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. On day two, he
defeated Honduras’ Carlton Alvarez 6-4, 7-5 and then teamed with Sjoerd DeVries to defeat Pablo Costa and Jose Moncada 6-0, 6-3. In his final match against
the US Virgin Islands, Giel clinched first place for Aruba with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 doubles win over Kristopher Elien and Eugene Highfield. As a result, Aruba
was promoted to America Zone Group III for 2008 Davis Cup play.
