Futch Named George M. Skurla Award Winner

– Duane C. Futch, a 1974 Florida Tech graduate and director of the Global Travel Division for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., received this year’s George M. Skurla
Outstanding Alumni Award at the School of Aeronautics annual Homecoming Luncheon. He is the son of the late Howard Futch, Florida State Senator from
District 18.

In his Wal-Mart position, Futch manages all travel for Wal-Mart worldwide. This includes Wal-Mart Aviation, Beaver Lake Aviation, Wal-Mart Corporate Travel
and Leisure Travel Services. Under this program are Wal-Mart Vacations, Walmart.com Travel, Sam’s Club Travel Services and Samsclub.com Travel.

Futch holds an Airline Transport Pilot certificate as wells as Flight Instructor and Ground Instructor certificates. He is a former FAA-designated Check
Airman and Aviation Counselor.

While at Florida Tech, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in air commerce, Futch was an instructor for F.I.T. Aviation.

He is on the board of directors and is treasurer for the Arkansas Aviation Technology Center. Futch lives in Bentonville, Ark. with his wife Cathy and
their sons Andrew and Jonathan.

George M. Skurla, for whom the award is named, was a retired chairman and president of Grumman Aerospace Corporation as well as a Florida Tech trustee and
benefactor. He passed away in late 2001.
