Giel and Kessler Take #1 Doubles for only Win in 8-1 Loss against Mocs

MELBOURNE, Fla. (men’s tennis) — The Florida Tech Panthers fall 8-1 against #26 Florida Southern Mocs in a Sunshine State Conference men’s tennis match today
at the Fee Avenue Courts.

The #15 nationally ranked and #4 regionally ranked tandem of Keith Kessler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Clifford Giel (Savaneta, Aruba) pulled off Tech’s lone win
on the day downing Mocs’ pair Michael Knoedler and Roman Schirmaier 9-8 in a tough fought match.

Freshman Jon Hanna (Nassau, Bahamas) and senior Christian Smith (Arauca, Trinidad) pulled off five points in a 8-5 loss to #10 regionally ranked team of
Justin LaFlamme and Greg Heartt at the number two doubles position.

Two Panthers managed to take sets from their conference single opponents. Giel who fell 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 in the #1 singles match was bale to take the second
set 6-2 from #6 regionally ranked Michael Knoedler. Sophomore David Fowler (St. James, Barbados), who has up until today been undefeated at the #5 spot
also, took his opponent Greg Heartt to a tiebreaker set ultimately falling 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 despite having match point five times in the tie-breaker.

Tech will be back in action on President’s Day where they travel to St. Petersburg to face more conference play against Eckerd College on Monday the 19th
at 2:00 p.m. The Panthers are now 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the SSC while Florida Southern is 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the conference.
