Hernandez Named Daktronics Second Team All-South Region in Womens Soccer

MELBOURNE, Fla. (women’s soccer) – The 2006 DAKTRONICS All-South Region Women’s Soccer Team was announced on Wednesday. Senior defender Rocio Hernandez (Madrid, Spain) became the first
ever Florida Tech women’s soccer team member to make the All-South Regional Team in the short four-year history of the program.

In the first season, former team members’ Megan Kramer (Satellite Beach, Fla.) along with Lindsay Person Morgan (Great Fall, Montana) made the COSIDA
Academic All-Region First Team.

She is a two time all Sunshine State Conference member making the SSC’s first team for the 2006 season. This season she notched five goals as the middle
right-back line defender. She transferred to Tech from the DI program University of Texas El Paso after her freshman year; her first season Hernandez
played forward and was moved to the back line during her junior year.

Hernandez, Ro as she is known by friends, is a Communications major at Florida Tech. She finished off her career with 24 points, ten goals and four assists
for the three seasons with the crimson and gray program.

Hernandez helped lead Tech to their best defensive efforts in the program’s history finishing with a final record of 8-4-6. This was Tech’s best record in
their four years with the most wins at eight; 2003 and 2005 saw seven wins. Four losses also set a record overcoming last year’s seven losses. The
inaugural year saw 12 losses and 2004 had ten losses due to hurricane obstacles.

Five Sunshine State Conference teams were recognized on both the first and second teams. University of Tampa sophomore forward Shelby Kuni was also honored
as the 2006 DAKTRONICS South Region Player of the Year.

Members of the All-South Region First Team will advance to the national ballot and be eligible for the 2006 DAKTRONICS Women’s Soccer All-American Team.
Voting for the DAKTRONICS Women’s Soccer All-South Region Team was conducted among the Sports Information Directors at South Region institutions.
