Noted Portrait Artist Jon Houghton at Foosaner Art Museum May 21

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Museum Monday, a program of the Foosaner Art Museum, Florida Institute of Technology, presents accomplished portrait artist Jon Houghton May 21 at 10 a.m., in the museum’s Harris Community Auditorium.

Houghton’s commissions are from leaders in the business, medical, educational, legal, political and private communities. His work is among many collections both in the United States and abroad, and is featured by such local entities as Harris Corp., TRW, the Foosaner Art Museum, Holmes Regional Medical Center and Health First.

An artist from early childhood, Houghton is a Studio Art graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he studied with master lithographer Robert Nelson. His post-graduate work includes a fellowship with internationally known artist Philip Pearlstein and studies with national academician Daniel Greene and watercolorist Charles Reid. A firm believer in the apprenticeship system, he continues the tradition of individually training gifted students.

Houghton maintains studios in Melbourne, Fla., and Atlanta, Ga. He is the recipient of the “Best of Show” award at the 2009 Portrait Society of Atlanta Exhibition and is the founding president of the Brevard Watercolor Society.

Museum Monday is a community outreach program that focuses on art and creativity in various forms. Sponsored by the Guild of the Foosaner Art Museum, the free programs are held in the Harris Community Auditorium at 10 a.m. on the third Monday, October through May. Light refreshments are served.
