Partnership with Jack Quinn Solutions, LLC, Helps Prepare for Supply Management Certification

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology’s Office of Strategic Initiatives has partnered with Jack Quinn Solutions, LLC (JQS) to offer preparation courses for the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) designation offered by the Institute for Supply Management. The suite of five courses provides participants with everything required to achieve success on the three exams leading to certification.

The courses cover the fundamentals needed to manage the procurement process as a strategic part of business operations. The Institute for Supply Management states that a 2.5 percent reduction in procurement costs produces the same amount of profit as a 10 percent increase in sales. Florida Tech and JQS want to help people become supply chain professionals who can provide solutions when sales are flat or declining.

Dr. Randall M. Mauldin, USMC (Ret.), CPSM®, PMP®, president of JQS, approached Florida Tech because of the need to provide comprehensive training for this crucial certification. “Supply chain management is more than purchasing or procurement,” he said. “The intricacy of the modern supply chain requires a broad range of knowledge to understand and manage the 14 functional areas of the supply chain, which are essential to our economy. These are purchasing, sourcing, logistics, quality management, inventory control, material management, transportation, disposal, warehousing, distribution, receiving, packaging, product/service development, and manufacturing supervision.”

The CPSM certification is an internationally recognized credential that indicates a person understands these different areas and remains current in best practices. Professionals with the ISM certification can expect accelerated promotions and will earn an average 13 percent more than those without certification.

The course is for anyone involved in the buying process. This includes executives, supply chain managers, procurement professionals and project managers. The full benefits of supply chain management are realized when all levels of the organization operate from a common point of view.

Clifford Bragdon, executive director of the Florida Tech Global Center for Preparedness, has been working with Jack Quinn Solutions, LLC to provide professional certification training for employers to leverage strategic sourcing as a way to maintain profitability. “What really excites me about this program,” he said, “is that the courses help prepare an individual to achieve certification and contain information that can be applied immediately to help businesses maximize cost savings.”

The suite of five courses is a flexible and comprehensive offering for the CPSM certification. It includes an intense, three-day boot camp to prepare participants for all three exams; one-day preparation courses for each of the three exams to prepare a person for a single exam if they have already taken one or two, or if a person’s study method prefers to focus on a single exam at a time; and a two-day bridge exam preparation course for those who may already have the Certified Procurement Manager certification. Course material includes the ISM study guide, ISM glossary, and Web-based diagnostic exams.

The first series of courses begins with the three-day Boot Camp, June 4-6, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Melbourne, Fla. this will be followed by a series of one-day seminars. Additional series are scheduled throughout the year in various locations. More information, including how to register, may be found online at www.fit.edu/gcp/programs/cpsm.php.
