Florida Tech Panthers Defeat Mount Olive Trojans 2-1

MELBOURNE, Fla.–The Florida Tech Women’s Soccer Team (2-0) is off to a great start with an impressive 2-1 victory over NCAA Division II opponent Mt. Olive
College (2-1) hailing from North Carolina handing them their first defeat on the season. Tech scored both of their goals in the final ten minutes of the
game upsetting the Trojans who before today’s loss were on an eleven game winning streak.

The Panthers managed to defensively shut-down the effective offense of the Trojans who had totaled 13 goals in their first two games of the season.

Both teams were scoreless at the half unable to break each other’s defensive lines with each team shooting a combined 11 shots in the first 45 minutes of
the game.

The Trojan’s struck first when home-grown freshman forward Jackie Jimenez (Plantation, FL) netted the first goal of the game off a rebounded shot. Jimenez
is no stranger to the Panther’s junior midfielder Jamie Saunders (Plantation, FL) considering they both played together at American Heritage High School.

Despite being down Tech managed to pick-up their game with the spark of junior middle defender Rocio Hernandez (Madrid, Spain) driving the ball forward
three separate times to help set up the Panther’s offensive attack.

Tech finally answered back in the 84th minute when sophomore forward Ericka Hildreth (Cocoa Beach, FL) punted one of Tech’s five corner kicks that made its
way to junior midfielder Miranda Tessier (Vero Beach, FL). Tessier won back the ball off a Trojans deflection and passed it to junior forward Danielle
Emhoff (Canton, CT) who shot the tying goal.

The game winning goal came at the 86th minute when Emhoff kicked a 15 yard goal in the upper right corner of the net after junior forward Lori Shields
managed to help draw out Mt. Olive’s freshman keeper Heather Ulep (Belmont, NC) for the victory. Shields tallies her first assist as a Panther.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Wales (Huntsville, Alabama) was awarded her second win on the season while Ulep suffered her first loss for the Trojans.

Tech will be back in action on Tuesday, September 6th at 4:00 p.m. hosting Flagler College at the Rick Stottler Field.
