Lecture Explores Archeoastronomy

– Florida Tech’s Astronomy and Astrophysics Public Lecture Series will present, “Archeoastronomy: Egyptian Pyramids and the True North,” on Jan. 27 at 8
p.m. The presentation, free to the community, will be in the F.W. Olin Engineering Complex auditorium, Room EC118.

The lecturer is Dr. Stephane Vennes, Florida Tech assistant professor of physics and space sciences. There will be
stargazing afterward, on the rooftop of the Olin Physical Sciences Building, weather-permitting.

Vennes will explore such questions as, “How much did Egyptian astronomers know about celestial phenomena?” “Did ancient astronomers share knowledge with
pyramid builders and help align Egyptian pyramids with stunning precision?”

“Although past civilizations are almost as mysterious as deep skies, today’s astronomers are shedding some light on ancient civilizations,” said Vennes.

The F.W. Olin Engineering Center is located on University Blvd. For more information, call (321) 674-7207, or visit fit.edu/aapls.
