Lecture Visits Subatomic World of Particle Physics

– Florida Tech’s Astronomy and Astrophysics Public Lecture Series will present, “Particle Physics at the Energy Frontier,” on March 24 at 8 p.m. The
presentation, free to the community, will be in the F.W. Olin Engineering Complex auditorium, Room EC118.

The lecturer is Dr. Marcus Hohlmann, assistant professor of Physics & Space Sciences. Weather permitting, there
will be stargazing afterward on the rooftop observing deck of the Olin Physical Sciences Building.

Particle physics is a branch of physics that studies the elementary constituents of matter and radiation, and the interactions between them. It is also
called high energy physics, because many elementary particles do not occur under normal circumstances in nature, but can be created and detected during
energetic collisions of other particles, as is done in particle accelerators.

The F.W. Olin Engineering Center is located on University Blvd. For more information, call (321) 674-7207, or visit www.fit.edu/aapls.
