Lifelong Learning: Benefits of Biofouling, April 11, 2019

During this monthly lecture series, Dr. Kelli Hunsucker will go in depth on biofouling, what it is and why it matters.

Biofouling, especially of ships, has been a problem for as long as humanity has been sailing the oceans. Biofouling affects the operation of marine vessels, but it also has an impact on aquaculture and competes with shellfish directly for food resources. Although many methods of removal exist, they often affect the cultured species, sometimes more so than the fouling organisms themselves.
