Foosaner Art Museum inspires young artists

The summer programs for young artists at Florida Tech’s Foosaner Art Museum emphasized learning through hands-on activities and by directly observing art. The eight themed camps, which began June 4 and continued through July 27, were taught by professional art instructors and were inspired by the museum’s current exhibitions and permanent collection.

The program introduced students to the fundamental concepts of art and to ideas and practices behind modern art. Instructors created activities based on art in the museum’s galleries, which they related to the Summer Art Camp 2012 themes. Activities included traditional art making and mixed media exploration. This year’s exhibitions include Florida Artists from the Permanent Collection and Cuban Daydreams: Dionel Delgado; introducing children to paintings, sculptures and works on paper.

Each week art campers accompanied by their instructors took a field trip to the galleries, directly across the street, and then created their own art work in the Renee Foosaner Education Center studios. The last day of each camp ended with an art party reception hosted by museum volunteers. Campers displayed their artwork and celebrated their creative accomplishments with friends and family. Their creativity was even featured in the Florida Today!
