Florida Tech Introduces Humanities Pre-Law Option Degree

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Department of Humanities and Communication introduces the Humanities-Pre-Law Option B.A. degree and with it, three new courses. The program provides the courses needed to meet the entrance requirements of law schools.

“The studies are basically the same for a humanities degree—reading, writing and critical thinking—all areas recommended by the American Bar Association for pre-law studies,” said Professor Robert Taylor. Also department head, Taylor is adviser for the Humanities Pre-Law Option program. “However, we are creating three new courses just for the option.”

Taught for the first time in spring 2011 will be Introduction to Law. Available soon after will be Constitutional Law I and II.

Three Florida Tech students are ready to enter the program, said Taylor, who has formed a pre-law option advisory group. Volunteers from the local legal community, members include local attorneys Brooke Deratany-Goldfarb and Larry Kenkel; and President-Elect of the Brevard County Bar Association Timi Tucker. Deratany-Goldfarb will teach Introduction to Law in the spring. The course, about the law and legal system in the United States, is open to any major.
