2013 Florida Tech/Harris Ethics and Leadership Conference Set for April 16
MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Nathan M. Bisk College of Business Center for Ethics and Leadership and Harris Corp. will host the 2013 Annual Ethics and Leadership Conference April 16. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Florida Tech’s Gleason Performing Arts Center on campus. The theme this year is “Creating Business and Social Value through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).”
The conference will feature presentations from industry leaders and the winning team from the 17th Annual High School Business Ethics Competition at Florida Tech. The team, from Edgewood Junior/Senior High, will present its case 12:45-1:30 p.m.
Industry speakers include John Roy, vice president of human resources, Harris Government Communications Systems, who will speak 8:15-9 a.m. He will present “Opportunities and Challenges of Corporate Social Responsibility in a Global Environment.”
Brian Barefoot, president emeritus of Babson College and senior advisor to Carl Marks & Co., will speak 9-9:45 a.m. His presentation will be “Empowering Future Business Leaders: The Role of CSR in Higher Education.”
Diana Dobin, president and chief sustainability officer, Valley Forge Fabrics and a LEED-accredited professional, will present “Innovation and Social Responsibility in the 21st Century”1:30-2:15 p.m. Valley Forge Fabrics is a worldwide decorative fabric supplier to the hospitality industry.
Additionally, from 10-11 a.m. a panel will discuss “CSR as a Strategic Initiative: Why Companies Are Doing it.” Panelists are Doug Sweeny, a member of executive leadership, IBM, Solutions for America and American Telemanagement Solutions; Alan Metzger, vice president, Northrop Grumman; Claudia Haines Jones, corporate and business law attorney, Dean Mead; Rich Kusmer, a member of executive leadership, Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Cola, Honeywell and Scotts-MiracleGro; and Anthony Deglomine III, vice president and general counsel, Harris Corp.
At the luncheon, David Brock, Community Credit Union, will receive the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business Ethics and Leadership Award for Community Engagement. An intercollegiate ethics case presentation by Florida Tech business students will follow.
