Florida Tech to Host National Bilogical Sciences Society Convention

– The Florida Tech College of Science Department of Biological Sciences will host the 2006 National Convention of
Tri-Beta, the biological sciences honor society, on May 24-28. Approximately 200 undergraduate student researchers and their advisors will come from all
over the United States to present their data and discuss science with their colleagues. Students will hear lectures from area scientists and explore the
wild areas of coastal Central Florida, participating in kayaking excursions and sea turtle walks.

Dr. Michael Grace, associate professor of biological sciences, is faculty advisor for Florida Tech’s Sigma Psi chapter of Tri-Beta. Current officers and
recently graduated seniors are Diane Thompson, president; Amy Perkins, vice president; Julie Medina, treasurer; Krystle VanSickler, secretary; and Brady
Denger, historian. Perkins is also president of the Southeast Region’s District 1.

Tri-Beta was established in 1922 to promote interest and research in the biological sciences. Dr. Gary Wells, head of the Department of Biological
Sciences, established the Sigma Psi chapter at Florida Tech in 1981. Regular chapter activities include guest speakers, workshops, camping trips, and tours
of regional science and research centers.
