Meet Emily: Psychology ’14

The Sunrise of my Journey

My name is Emily (you can also call me Em or Emilia, if you prefer), and I’ll be taking you along on my journey at my brand spanking new school, Florida Tech!

Now, who am I – and what, exactly, makes me special? Well, I just started as a first-time-in-college junior here at Florida Tech. Essentially, that means I get all the perks of being a freshman, but I’m taking junior-level classes. Why? Simple – I received my Associate in Arts degree while I was still in high school.  And if you want to know a secret… consider the fact that I was homeschooled my whole life. I have never been to public school before I started community college at fourteen. Thankfully, I think that I’ve got the hang of it by now.

I made the decision to major in clinical psychology since I love helping people and studying the human mind. I chose this when I was fifteen and I’m happy to be able to say that I made the right choice. Studying psychology allows me to better understand the world around me, and with every new thing I learn, I feel like my eyes are being opened more and more.

I’m a tad shy when you first meet me, but I quickly become one of the bubbliest and most enthusiastic people you’ll ever meet. I absolutely adore reading and writing and I even ended up self-publishing my own novel last year. Poetry and stories are my main passions, but I also love things like blogging! I am what most people refer to as a “student of life,” because I manage to find a lesson in everything and I love learning new things whenever I have the opportunity.  Two of my greatest and most well-known passions are languages and music. I play guitar and drums, and I sing. As for languages, I speak English, Spanish and German (and bits and pieces of others, of course).

I’ve also always been passionate about being involved in organizations and clubs. I’ve already joined the show choir, ballroom dancing and fencing clubs, and I’m even anticipating starting my own club in the spring, stay tuned. I always enjoy trying new things. For example, this semester I’m in concert choir for the first time in my life. I love to volunteer, shoot archery, and fence (think modern-day sword fighting) in my spare time. And if you couldn’t tell already, I’m pretty different from most girls my age.

Taking out my guitar and having jam sessions in random places is a bad habit of mine…

I’m just starting my adventure at Florida Tech, but I’m loving it so far. I know these next two years are going to be full of great things and I’m excited to see where my journey takes me. If there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s that my clubs, my classes, and most of all, my friends, will make my time here exciting and unpredictable. I’m looking forward to blogging about everything as it happens and sharing it here. Welcome to my world – I hope you find it interesting.
