Meet Tito: Marketing ‘13

Guerrilla in the Mist

“The conventional army loses if it does not win. The guerrilla wins if he does not lose.”

-Henry Kissinger

My name is Mauricio Miranda but I am commonly known as Tito, which is how I shall refer to myself in the remainder of the blogs. I am a senior marketing major in the College of Business at Florida Tech and I love every aspect of it.

You might be wondering to yourselves, “Why did you choose Guerrilla in the Mist as your title and what does it have to do with anything?” Well the term guerrilla is a great word to describe many things about me; from my Nicaraguan heritage where some of my relatives were Contras (no, not that kind of Contra ↑↑↓↓← →← →BA) who were guerrilla fighters that fought from the jungles and mountains of Nicaragua to my random spontaneous personality that can ambush people from time to time. In the sense of the word I am also a guerilla fighter except rather than overthrowing a government, I am taking the fight to mainstream marketing and using unconventional marketing tactics to send the message of whatever it is I am advertising. For you see I am a guerrilla marketer, but you will find out more about this throughout the upcoming blog post.

If you catch a glimpse of me on campus, I will most likely be the guy sporting a kilt, Converse shoes and a Mohawk. I am known for the different creative events I bring to campus and the reason why everyone runs around with Nerf guns for 2 weeks (Humans vs Zombies), but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. This is my first blog of many to come so I guess this is a great chance for my readers to get to know me a little better and sort of get rid of the misty shroud that surrounds this guerrilla.

I come from the town of Bartow, Fla. (if you can imagine a small farming town/mining town in Florida then you have Bartow) located in the center of the state. Like I mentioned before, I am of Nicaraguan heritage, so naturally I picked up Spanish. However, I also took 5 years of French and am currently learning Gaelic (Tha mi ag iarraidh briosgaid!). I am big into zombies, cooking epic meals with a lot of bacon, nostalgic ‘90s stuff and going to conventions. Campus-wise, I am greatly involved in the Campus Activities Board, where I am in charge of booking awesome people to come to Florida Tech such as Lindsey Stirling and Reel Big Fish. I am also a member of Greek Life and a brother of the Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity, and I am currently a Resident Assistant (RA) for Columbia Village.

Tito is in his natural habitat.

As a senior this is my last chance to leave my mark on campus; so if you would like to come along for the ride, buckle up and please stand clear of the doors, (por favor manténganse alejado de las puertas) we are coming in hot!
